Parties are one of the top three ways that Rice County 11th graders report getting alcohol.
To limit underage access to alcohol, Dundas, Faribault, Northfield, and Rice County passed social host ordinances.
The social host ordinances make it a crime to knowingly provide a place where underage drinking occurs. It could be at a home, yard, farm, field, an apartment or hotel room. Regardless of who brought or provided the alcohol, the host (teen OR adult) can be charged under the ordinance.
Teens who host parties will also be charged under the ordinance.
The consequences of hosting an underage drinking party? Up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. The social host ordinance is here to support the overwhelming majority of youth and adults who want to see a decrease in underage alcohol access and consumption.
